Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service Inc. (PLAHS) is seeking a motivated and community-focused Health Promotion Officer to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to plan and deliver culturally responsive health promotion programs, community education activities and public information campaigns that contribute to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for the Aboriginal community.
Working collaboratively with the Aboriginal community, PLAHS teams, schools, service providers and government and non-government organisations, you will help develop and deliver initiatives aligned with PLAHS’ strategic direction and community needs.

Job Description
About the role
Reporting to the Business Services Manager, the Health Promotion Officer will coordinate a range of health promotion, education and community engagement activities across PLAHS and the broader community.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing health promotion activities and programs
Developing an annual calendar of health promotion events
Coordinating community health education events
Coordinating health promotion, screening and educational activities for primary and secondary school students
Supporting community consultation, research and program evaluation
Facilitating workshops and contributing to resource and policy development
Designing and delivering public information campaigns
Coordinating multimedia content, including radio, television, advertising, publications and information resources
Developing reports, submissions and program data as required
Building effective relationships with community members, stakeholders and partner organisations
Desired Skills and Experience
About you
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Experience working effectively with Aboriginal people
Experience developing and delivering planned health promotion activities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
The ability to build positive relationships with community members and a wide range of stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment
Strong planning, organisation and time-management skills
The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
An understanding of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues
Knowledge of health promotion strategies and principles
An understanding of primary health care, cultural safety, community development and engagement principles
Competency using Microsoft Office and similar systems
Health promotion training, or a willingness to undertake further education relevant to the role
Essential requirements
The successful applicant will be required to hold and maintain:
A current unrestricted driver’s licence
Relevant Working with Children and criminal history clearances
A current CPR Certificate
Safe Environments for Children and Young People certification, or an approved alternative
Required hand hygiene and infection control training
Evidence of compliance with PLAHS staff immunisation requirements.
